How to Make White Halloween Spider? Explained With Pictures
For this Halloween spider project you will need:
- Wool thread
- Scissors
- Pen
- Sticky paper (black and white)
- Wires
- Pliers
- Hot glue gun
First, the Pom-Poms
We’re going to make two pom-poms, one bigger and one smaller using either black or grey wool. The bigger pom-pom becomes the body of the spider and the smaller one becomes the head. I used white which worked really well for me.
There are a few different ways to make pom-poms but this is the way I did it.
For each pom-pom cut a piece of wool to a length of 12-24 inches and set it aside.
For the Larger Pom-Pom:
Take the remaining thread and start wrapping it around your palm. You need to have a lot of wool layers on your hand before you are finished.
The more layers you have, the bigger the pom-pom will be.
When you’re happy with the number of layers, pull the wool off your hand with the middle held tightly and a tunnel through the loops on each side.
Make sure you don’t lose any loops. Take the thread you set aside and tie it tightly around the middle. You may need help for this.
See how it looks in the following picture.
Make sure you keep a tunnel through the loops on either side of the middle.
For each tunnel put a blade of the scissors through the tunnel and cut through the loops.
The cut loops on both sides of the middle will look raggedy so take the scissors and trim the ends to make a round shape.
It’s as if you’re giving it a haircut cutting evenly to get the round shape. Be careful though. Don’t cut too much off.
And don’t cut the two ends of your tie piece as you need to leave them as long as possible.
Stop trimming when you’re happy with the look.
For the Smaller Pom-Pom:
Repeat the same procedure with one difference.
Only wrap the thread around your three fingers. This means you’ll get a smaller pom-pom.
Here’s how my two pom-poms looked.
Second, the Wire
The wire is used to make the legs of the spider so you’ll need eight lengths of wire.
I used wires from artificial flowers. The length of the wire depends on the size of your pom-poms.
I cut them in half to get the right length for my pom-poms.
Now squeeze a little glue along the length of the wire except where you’re holding the wire.
Start wrapping the wool thread around the glued wire so you don’t see the wire and continue until you reach the end.
Third, it’s time to Assemble
Take the hot glue gun and glue the two pom poms together. Now we have the body of the spider with its smaller head.
Shape the wool covered wires into legs, glue one end and stick to the larger pom-pom. Space four legs evenly on each side of the body.
At this stage, you’re nearly finished.
Fourth, and Last
Now for the final touch and that’s the eyes of the spider. You can buy two eyes at a toy shop. But you can save yourself a trip and make them yourself.
Draw two circles on the black sticky paper. Draw two much smaller circles on the white sticky paper.
Cut around each of the circles to end up with two round pieces of white sticky paper and two round pieces of black sticky paper.
Press a white piece in the middle of the black and then stick it as an eye on the front of the head. Let’s say that’s the right eye. Do the same for the two remaining pieces and stick them on as the left eye. And that’s it.
You have your spider for Halloween.
As I mentioned before, you can use black or grey wool thread to make the spider scarier.
Here is how mine turned out.
